So this morning we decided to drive a short distance to Oak Ridge for
breakfast, not as easy as it sounds, found 3 or 4 closed forever and alittle
Ma-Pa resturant that must have run the others out by serving one of the
best breakfasts we have ever had !!!!!
With the breakfast hunt over were off to find the elusive Bohemia ghost
town about 50 miles due E of Cottage Grove, WAY up in them there hills.
The last few miles of this trec are 4 wheel drive and narrow but we made it.
The main shaft has been blocked off but the size of the tailing piles you can
imagine how far the shaft went back under the hill side. The rails for the ore
carts are still some what attached to the ties heading out on the wast piles,
part of the ore crusher is still there and one building is still standing strong.
Gold was first found here about 1860, just getting a somewhat road in was
a project, all blasted out of solid rock, had to be a 4 day trip with horse &
wagon. GREAT view of area off ridge before you head down to the mine..
