Well today we headed up in the hills to check things out, snow quit here but
I am sure we will find some on our trip.First stop Philpsburg old silver mining
town, designated a town in 1867, the gold ran out but not the silver.Visited
some of the old building, did some sapphire panning and scored. also found
the local candy shop and SCORED with the help of my co-pilot. On the hunt
for some ghost towns wound our way farther up in the hills on this dirt road to
find the Southern cross old silver town, that ceased operation about 1910, some
of the old mine buildings still standing. The next target was Granit further up the,
trail but had to give up. Drove on up past Georgetown lake found this stream
coming out of solid rock maybe old mine shaft, the last blast might of been a
real surprise to the old miner.
Back on the highway heading to Ancondia looking for the big smoke stack from
the smelter.Almost into town stack in sight something else comes in sight, SHIT
these red & blue flashing lites on my bumper, pulled over to let him go around
but so did he! next Mr. Crane you were going 42 in a 35 what do you think I
should do Mr Crane ? in a meak voice give me a warning? OK keep it down !
OK now I can afford to buy lunch, stumbled onto the Classic Cafe great little
hot rod dinner out of place in mining town but doing good. drove around town
great old buildings, Found the Ancondia smelter & stack ,585ft high.93ft at the
base and 60ft at the top and 180 days to build. Heading back to camp well worth
the drive
